Voiceover
Narration recorded separately from the video and added in post-production.
A voiceover is recorded narration that is added to a video separately from the on-screen recording. For product demo videos, voiceover explains what is happening on screen, provides context, and adds personality.
Voiceover is optional for SaaS demo videos — many effective demos use on-screen text captions only. But a well-recorded voiceover adds a personal quality that captions cannot replicate, and it is especially effective for longer demos where the explanation needs nuance.
Recording a decent voiceover requires: a script (even a loose one), a quiet room, and the built-in microphone on any modern laptop. Professional voiceover quality is not required for launch videos; authenticity matters more than production quality.
For short-form social videos (under 30 seconds), voiceover is typically more effective than background music because it front-loads information in a compressed format. For videos intended for muted viewing, captions serve the same purpose.
