GlossaryAbove the Fold

Above the Fold

The portion of a webpage or post visible without scrolling — the most valuable real estate for conversion.

Above the fold refers to the content visible on a page or post without scrolling. The term comes from newspaper publishing, where the most important stories appeared on the top half of the front page (above the physical fold).

In digital marketing, above the fold is the prime conversion real estate. On a landing page, the above-the-fold content is the headline, subheadline, and primary CTA — what a visitor sees in the first 3 seconds.

For a product launch, the above-the-fold content on your landing page needs to communicate: what the product does, who it is for, and what to do next — without requiring any scrolling.

For social media posts, "above the fold" refers to the content visible before a viewer clicks "more" to expand the post. On X, this is the first 2–3 sentences of a thread. On LinkedIn, it is the first line of the post body. This first visible line serves as the hook that determines whether the viewer expands or scrolls past.
